I havn't had the pleasure of owning a Compaq but a friend of mine has. Compaq computers have been coming out lately with the SUPER ULTRA FAST-*cough* bull$#!t-56k modem called the *tada* LT Winmodem-it goes by other names too, I just refer to it as CRAP-If your one of the lucky people with one of these you'll almost always have some type of connectivity problem without sufficient tweeking. By the way you'll want to watch out for the IBM Aptiva, HP Pavillion and many other new computers that have been coming out with these modems. This little bundle of joy works off a Software based Digital Signal Processor. What does that mean? In laymans terms it doesnt have the balls to compete with something like say.. US
Robotics. Winmodems in general suck, they don't have to say LT in front of it. Buyer beware, these modems are CHEAP. Cheap modems means less cost to them and more profits. I for one have no time for all the corners cut in the making of a computer made by a brand name company. The sad truth is that you could probably get a computer MADE for you with the components you want for less money. It's nice having a box with no labels on it.. very fulfilling. I suggest everyone try it.
