Frontpage Story #3

I think they have kidnapped my Presario and I don't think I will pay the ransom, after the stuff I have read about them. I bought a Presario 4555 from a Radio Shack. It kept overheating, so I called tech support, they said it was probably the power supply and to take it back to Radio Shack. Radio Shack said they would have to send it to a repair station and that I would have it back in ten days. This was on August 24. It is now October 19 and I still don't have my computer back.

I have called Radio Shack they say the part is on backorder, will probably be in next week, every week for the last eight weeks. I have called tech support, they tell me the same thing. I e-mailed them, they told me to go to the Compaq forum. Like that was really going to help me. I e-mailed them three more times and they just sent back the form letter to go to the Compaq forum. I don't think they even read these e-mails.

After the three tries, they posted my letter and told me to call tech support. Tech support told me to keep calling Radio Shack and bugging them to get my computer back. The Radio Shack manager won't talk to me or answer my calls. I e-mailed Radio Shack customer relations, they said the technician was waiting on a processor and that it should be in on October 12 or 13. I called Radio Shack on October 16, they said the part should be in on October 21. I called Compaq Direct Plus and asked for the number for Customer Relations, they said all they had was an address or a fax number.

Most of my friends find it quite humorous when I tell them my computer is vacationing in Kansas. My daughter has a PowerSpec, admittedly not a name brand computer, but her's went down a month after mine and she is up and running again, while I am still waiting. Her's cost about half what mine did. Then of course, I have to put up with the ribbing from my husband, because the NEC he bought the same day as I bought my Compaq is working like a charm. I haven't decided what my next computer will be, but it won't be a Compaq.
