Fix for Modem problems that Comcrap cant fix

Please, I offer this info with the expectation if you try to use it you know what you are doing and can get out of any jam you may experience. If you are not sure or have not done this get someone who can do it for you. If you are unfamiliar with working on your system dont put yourself in the position of having to call Comcrap to talk you out and get you into worse trouble.

PS I had all the drivers listed because I went out and upgraded to windows 98. I have a ms windows disk. I did not use compcraps quickrestore to fix this.

It amazes me how comcrap is in the dark about thier own product. Have no clue as to how to get rid of the bugs. In the short time of a year I have worked out most of the bugs with the help of trial and error, MS with the registry, and individual software companies of various products I have upgraded on the computer. DO YOU THINK THIS IS GOOD PR COMCRAP??? DO YOU THINK YOU GAIN AND KEEP CUSTOMERS THIS WAY???

I joined ATT and found the 56k would only connect at around 30,000 bps. I reluctantly went to Comcraps upgrade page for my computer and upgraded the v90 driver. I got 52000 bps connection and just as fast disconnects. If I was lucky I would have 5 min of connection time and have to redial. I called notech support and was given 2 string to put in the setup. One would definitely work! Funny how he gave me the strings and ended the call quick. Both killed the modem. I deleted the strings and was resigned to having to try different settings to see if I could get a combination to work. xonxoff...etc.

I was planning on buying an external modem when my brother bought an internal modem for his computer. He installed it and couldnt get it to work. He called me in to help. The manufacturer supplied the wrong drivers with the modem. Of course their was never an answer at his company only voice mail. Being it was a lucent modem and my Mom's is lucents also we took her driver and installed it on his machine. It worked. Hmmm, I wonder who makes comcraps modem. I installed the driver on my piece of shit and it died. I had a dead piece of shit. Yup. I reinstall my 56k driver. Ah, no, that is an upgrade just like the v90. I had to go to the quickrestore and get the driver off the disk. Ok, I follow the instructions and get

Error opening input file - f:\qbrat\slqr22.txt(100).

First off I am not on f: drive my cd rom is on g:. I am trying to run slqr22.exe not a txt file. Typical Comcrap software. One question why cant they have a file like cpqmdm.exe and the quickrestore clearly labled as to what each app is? Is slqr22 correct? Who knows? It is under unimodem install. Nothing else comes close to being modem drivers or installs on the quickrestore. Why does everything refer to compaq modem 56k and not unimodem??? COMCRAP???? So I am dead with out a modem.

Hmmm, windows 98 can you rescue the moment? I go to install a new hardware. I select the equipment myself and choose the files to install. I go to Windows\options\cabs and have a whole choice of modem drivers. I try a couple and die. I do it all over and I get one that works. It was either cpqmdm18 or cpqmdm9. Funny how microsoft has the drivers clearly labled. For all of MS' problems they do put out good products and know them well. These files bring up a whole list of drivers and I chose the 56k-df 11/20/98 driver. I try to get onto ATT and guess what I have been online now for 25 min with out a disconnect. I have opened and closed several internet apps, ie5, netscape, quicken and have not been disconnected each time I close the app like I have been in the past. I reluctantly share this with you because now Comcrap knows how to fix their problem. I spent almost 4,000 on this piece of shit and Comcrap has not done one thing to satisfy me. They have given me nothing but wrong info and headaches. But I share this with you because you have no one else to go to.
