| Well, first I have to say thanks for having this site, cause you probably saved me a lot of grief and antacids. A couple weeks ago, hunting for laptops, I came across the Compaq Factory Store Outlet online. Having just finished configuring a Dell system online (I have one of thier PC's, a great machine BTW) I was feeling poor. I thought I had discovered a miracle when we found we could get a Compaq Presario 1692 with 466 AMD chip, DVD, 6.4gig hard drive, 4M video....the works! All for $1600! A miracle right? I have a slightly uneasy feeling, but , hey, how bad can it be? We ordered it after asking around, and not hearing anything
scary...after all, Staples carries them.... So we get our happy box in the mail, open it up, read all the information, boot the little darling up, and low and behold, a pinprick defect in the monitor screen shining like a little star in the deep blue firmament of the Compaq logo...well, not great, but not catastrophic. We continue to run it through its paces...try the DVD, and get psychedelic mush on the screen. We called Tech support (friendly and helpful by the way, thanks guys) who has us in a 2 hour session reinstall the driver etc etc, but no dice. It has to go back to the company. We have now been Compaq owners for 6 hours. After a less than satisfying discussion with Customer Service, in which no one even bothered to apologize for our inconvenience, we wrap up the laptop and ship it back, to the tune of 30 odd dollars. Poking around the web, feeling not at all happy about this, I jokingly type in COMPAQSUCKS, and like a beacon in the night, shining like the hole in our monitor, THERE YOU WERE! Bless you for saving us the torment of getting another one of these machines in the mail to replace the defective one...we are canceling our order and asking for a full refund. Can you say Dell Inspiron? |
