| hello. I own a compaq presario 7800 model and here is a list of problems i have had with the machine: 1: a while back i noticed the cd's i ejected were increasingly getting hotter day by day until one day i was playing the sims when the cd-rom drive EXPLODED, it let off a really loud blast that made me jump 6 feet into the air and run off into another room. after a while i gathered up courage and crept up and turned the power off at the wall. i pulled the cd-rom drive that was hanging out of the tower and opened it to find the sims cd virtually liquified hehehe... so i got a replacement cd-rom which is working fine. 2: when ever a member of the family randomly turned the power off directly off at the wall (problably because it froze) memory of the video card being there MAGICALLY dissapeared and i had to quickrestore the machine. 3: since i had installed 2000 pro, it had worked fine except i could get no recognition and work out of the video card even when i have updated the s3 savage 4 drivers , not to mention half the other drivers dont work but thats not a problem as i can get updates. 4: i formatted again to install windows 98 because a kid like me needs his daily dose of 9mm, and i found that windows installation crashes at 4% of detecting plug and play devices-yay so now i can run windows 98 in safe mode.... what i "should" be able to do and want to do is have a dual boot of linux mandrake 9.0 and windows 2000 pro but of course thats too much work for my compaq. i opened it up and inspected the hardware and its connected fine and everything is in place and happy... so its sitting on a bench for months on end until i can be bothered to have it looked at by a techie My outlook on Compaq- Malformed Spawn of Microsoft another testament to the sins of compaq- thanks for listening and i hope whoever read this shares the humour i find in it.. |
