Let me add to the list of failures. Our friends computer died last week. I opened it up this morning and found melted plastic encapsulant and two shorted gullwing leads on the Philips IC of the Quantum Fireball LCT 8 drive. The origin and direction of damage (center of package out to middle pins near board connector) suggests that the Philips IC suffered an electrical overstress or overheat event. Since there is no arc damage to the board or other components, we can rule out EOS.
